The Greene Dance Booster Club would like to welcome you to our dance community. We are a group of parents whose children take classes at Step Up and Dance. We try to organize a variety of events that expose the community to our dancers, to help us raise funds to offset dance tuition and to give a number of dance scholarships to deserving dancers at the recital. In August, we plan and organize a multi family yard sale in front of The Kids’ Room store in Greene. Any dance family that wishes to participate may do so. Each family that participates prices their own items, tags their own items, and gets the profit of their own items. The Booster Club advertises the sale and sponsors a bake sale at the same time. This fundraiser helps to offset dance tuition for families who participate in the sale. It has been going on for three years now and has become bigger and better each year. In September, we organize the now 2nd annual Labor Day Dancing where dancers from Step Up and Dance dance on the grass in front of the stage during the Labor day celebration. This gives the larger Greene community a chance to see the wonderful dance talent that our children have and hopefully it encourages others to come and take dance classes. In September, we set up and organize the dance shoe purchase/exchange in the studio. You may purchase slightly used dance shoes for $3 each by leaving your cash in the white envelope on the wall by Ms. Ashley’s office door. The ballet and jazz shoes are in a clear plastic rack hanging on the door. The tap shoes are in two sets of plastic drawers on the floor. If you can’t find them, ask at the front desk. If you bring in a pair of old dance shoes that no longer fit, you can exchange them for free for another pair. If you don’t have any to exchange then the cost is $3 a pair. This money is used to help fund dance scholarships for our dancers. In October, we make gift baskets to raffle off. The gift basket fundraiser supports the Booster Club’s activities and scholarship program. Families volunteer to make a gift basket or to coordinate one with several families helping. The gift baskets are then displayed around the village of Greene and at the dance studio. Raffle tickets are sold for $1 each or 6 for $5. The basket drawing is just before Thanksgiving. In October and throughout the year, we have set up a dance clothes donation account at The Kids’ Room Store in Greene. More information about that will follow soon. Clothes can be donated at the studio in the cardboard box above the tap shoe drawers. These donated clothes will then be sold at The Kids’ Room store in Greene and any money earned will be used for the Dance Booster Club’s scholarship fund. In November, we begin to sell Lottery Raffle Tickets. Lottery raffle tickets are sold in packs of 5 for $25. Then, you go out and sell the Lottery Tickets to friends, family, neighbors and co-workers for $5 a ticket. You keep the money, since you already prepaid for the tickets. Please make sure you fill in the ticket stubs when you sell the ticket and return the stubs to the dance studio. Half of the money you prepaid for the tickets will show up as a credit on your child’s dance account. The remainder of the ticket money goes to pay the winners. This fundraiser helps to offset dance tuition for families who participate in the selling of Lottery tickets. In December & January, we continue to sell Lottery Raffle Tickets. All lottery raffle ticket stubs must be turned in by the end of January. The Lottery Ticket winning month is February. In February, your child’s dance account will be credited with Lottery Raffle ticket sales. We begin to plan for the recital in late February and continue with this planning all the way through May. We are always open to new ideas of fundraisers to do during the winter months of January, February, March. If you have an idea of a fundraiser, please talk to any board member: Laurel Acunto, Anita Urda, Jessica Button, Manya Lobdell or leave us a message at the studio desk. In March, April and May – we prepare for the dance recital fundraisers – flower sells, concession sells, scholarship awards, raffle baskets, and candy grams. In June, we organize and coordinate the “Food for the Dancers” during the long recital rehearsals. During the recital we always need lots of help to make it all work efficiently. An hour of your help means a lot to us. Welcome to Step Up and Dance and the Greene Dance Booster Club. We hope we can help make your year a great one. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to contact any member of the Greene Dance Booster Club so we can help you.
